Biography

Short Description

Aleksandr Vasilyev is recorded under the Wikidata identifier Q15064892, yet this designation does not correspond in a readily verifiable way to a well-documented saint, hierarch, or public historical personage in the major printed and digital sources of church history and secular biography. The given name Aleksandr, the Russian form of Alexander, combined with the surname or patronymic Vasilyev (derived from Vasily, itself from Basil), has been extremely common in Russian-speaking lands for centuries. Consequently, dozens of clergy, monastics, and laypeople have borne this name, making unique identification dependent on additional data such as dates, diocese, or place of ministry that are not supplied here and cannot be invented.

In the Russian Orthodox tradition of the late imperial and Soviet periods, several priests named Aleksandr Vasilyev are known to have served in rural and urban parishes. Some of these men were arrested during the anti-religious campaigns that followed the Revolution of 1917 and the intensified persecutions of the 1930s. A number were later glorified as New Martyrs by the Russian Orthodox Church after the fall of the Soviet Union. Typical biographies of such figures, when they can be reconstructed from archival files and diocesan records, describe men born in the second half of the nineteenth century, ordained after seminary training, and often serving as married parish clergy according to the custom of the secular priesthood. None of those reconstructed lives can be matched with certainty to the specific Wikidata item in question, and no such matching is attempted here.

No reliable source confirms a birth year, death year, place of birth or death, or burial site for the Aleksandr Vasilyev of Q15064892. Likewise there is no verified record that he belonged to a monastic order, that he was married or celibate, or that he had children. He does not appear among the Bishops of Rome or the Coptic Popes of Alexandria, nor among the Patriarchs or Catholicoi of the principal Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, or Church of the East sees. No feast day, list of patronages, act of canonization, or beatification can be attached to him on the basis of currently accessible evidence.

The absence of a corresponding Wikipedia article further indicates that this individual has not been the subject of extensive secondary literature. Hagiographical method therefore requires that all specific claims be withheld rather than inferred from similarly named persons. Researchers would need to consult the Wikidata item directly, Russian genealogical and ecclesiastical databases, and the synodal publications of the Moscow Patriarchate concerning the New Martyrs in order to establish a documented biography.

Until such primary or critically edited secondary sources are brought to bear, Aleksandr Vasilyev of Q15064892 remains an obscure name whose life, ministry, and possible sanctity cannot be narrated with the factual confidence required of historical hagiography. The present notice therefore records only what can be stated without conjecture: a male bearer of a common Russian clerical name, not a pope or patriarch, otherwise undocumented in the sources available for verification.
