Biography

Short Description

Coloma Antònia Martí i Valls is recorded under a fully Catalan form of name, with the given names Coloma and Antònia and the traditional two-surname Iberian sequence Martí i Valls. Those given names are unambiguously feminine in Catalan and Spanish usage, which is the only onomastic fact that can be stated with confidence. A Wikidata item has been associated with the name, but that cataloguing does not by itself supply a verified life. Standard historical dictionaries, national biographies, the principal Catholic encyclopedias, and the usual hagiographical repertoires do not yield a securely documented career, dates, or offices that can be repeated here without conjecture.

No birth year, death year, or places of birth, death, or burial can be confirmed from widely available reliable sources. It would be improper to infer a Spanish or Catalan birthplace solely from the language of the name, even though that linguistic profile is typical of Catalonia and adjacent Catalan-speaking districts. Civil registers, parish books, and local monographs that might fix those facts have not been cited in the accessible secondary literature in a form that meets a cautious historical standard. Accordingly those fields remain blank rather than filled by probability.

There is likewise no verified evidence in major published sources that she belonged to a named religious order, that she married, or that she had children. She does not appear among the Bishops of Rome or among the patriarchs or catholicoi of the Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Coptic, or Church of the East traditions. No feast day is listed for her in the Roman Martyrology or in the better-known particular calendars, and no patronage, beatification, or canonization is attested in the principal liturgical and hagiographical references. Absence from those lists is not itself a biography; it only means that a public cult and a Roman process are not documented in the usual places.

Catalan-speaking society in the later modern period produced many women who bore comparable names, some of them religious sisters, teachers, or local worthies, and some of them among the large number of clergy and religious killed in the 1930s. Identifying this specific person with any one of those lives, or inventing a spiritual itinerary, a convent, or a martyrdom, would be unsound. The responsible course is to refuse a plausible but unfounded narrative and to record only what the name and the silence of the major sources actually support.

Further verification, if it exists, would have to come from diocesan archives, civil registration in Catalonia or the Balearic Islands, specialized Catalan biographical dictionaries, or a documented cause for beatification that has not surfaced in the general literature. Until such material is produced and checked, the biographical outline remains limited to the feminine Catalan name, the certainty that she was neither pope nor patriarch, and an honest admission that dates, places, family status, and religious affiliation are not established in the sources that can be verified here.
