Biography

Short Description

The name Felice is the Italian form of Latin Felix, meaning happy or fortunate, and it was borne by a large number of Christian martyrs, bishops, hermits, and religious from the Roman imperial period through the early modern era, especially in Italy and North Africa. Martyrologies and local calendars list many distinct persons under this name, often with only a feast day, a place of martyrdom or episcopal see, and a brief notice rather than a full contemporary biography. Distinguishing one Felice from another therefore depends on unique identifiers, accompanying epithets, or securely attributed primary sources; without those, dates, places, and offices cannot be assigned without conflating separate historical figures.

Early notices of men named Felix or Felice frequently appear in groups of martyrs whose passions were written or expanded long after the events they describe. Later medieval and Counter-Reformation figures include diocesan bishops, Franciscan or Capuchin friars, and locally venerated confessors whose cults remained confined to a single city or order. In most of these cases the year of birth is unrecorded; even the year of death may rest on liturgical tradition rather than a dated document. Formal papal canonization, as opposed to popular acclamation or episcopal approval, is likewise often late or absent for the earlier saints.

Because the subject is identified only by the given name Felice and a Wikidata identifier that cannot be matched in verified historical literature to one specific, well-documented individual, no birth year, death year, birthplace, burial site, religious order, family status, or patronage can be stated. Reliable reconstruction would require the item’s own references, the relevant volume of the Acta Sanctorum or Bibliotheca Sanctorum, and any surviving vita, liturgical proper, or archaeological evidence tied to a particular cult. Until that correspondence is established, the biographical particulars remain unknown.
