Biography

Short Description

Hermelinda Simón Prieto is listed in Wikidata under the identifier Q61061383, yet she does not appear in the Roman Martyrology, the principal Western martyrologies, or the standard dictionaries and encyclopedias of saints, blesseds, and servants of God that form the backbone of published hagiography. No year of birth, year of death, or securely attested place of birth or death for this person can be confirmed from those works or from other widely cited historical literature. In keeping with the requirement not to invent or substitute office-taking dates for biographical facts, those fields are therefore left blank.

It is likewise not possible, from reliable published sources, to state whether she belonged to a religious institute, lived as a consecrated woman, or remained a layperson, nor whether a diocesan or Roman cause for beatification or canonization has ever been introduced. No feast day, list of patronages, or act of beatification or canonization by a named pontiff or congregation can be verified. The complete historical lists of Bishops of Rome and of the patriarchs and catholicoi of the Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Coptic, and Church of the East traditions contain no one of this name, so those offices can be excluded; beyond that negative finding, her precise ecclesiastical status remains unconfirmed.

The given name Hermelinda and the surnames Simón Prieto are consistent with Spanish or Hispanic usage and may point toward Spain or Spanish America, but a linguistic inference is not a documented nationality or birthplace and is not treated here as such. Nothing in the available general literature establishes a spouse, children, or a public religious profession. Local necrologies, diocesan archives, congregational chronicles, or the references attached to the Wikidata item itself may contain further detail, but those materials have not entered the standard historical record in a form that can be cited with confidence.

Until primary or well-sourced secondary evidence is produced and checked, the responsible biographical course is to record the scarcity of verified information rather than to fill gaps by conjecture. Researchers seeking a fuller account would need to consult those unpublished or locally circulated sources directly.
