Biography

Short Description

Janez Kostelec cannot be identified with confidence in the standard printed hagiographical collections, national biographical dictionaries, martyrologies, or widely cited ecclesiastical histories. The given name Janez is the ordinary Slovene form of John and is used of men; Kostelec may be a surname or a toponymic byname connected with one of several Central European places called Kostelec, especially in the Czech lands, though a Slovene context is also possible from the form of the forename. No reliable source available here attaches a verified year of birth, year of death, birthplace, or place of death to this name in connection with Wikidata item Q130396493, and that identifier’s high numeric range is consistent with a recently created or little-cited record rather than with a long-established saint or nationally famous prelate.

No feast day, patronage, beatification, or canonization of Janez Kostelec appears in the Roman Martyrology, in the better-known local calendars of the Slovene or Czech churches, or in standard lists of blesseds and saints. There is likewise no evidence that the subject was Bishop of Rome, Coptic Pope of Alexandria, or patriarch or catholicos of an Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Coptic, or Church of the East see; those offices are fully documented and do not include this name. Nothing in the checked literature places him in a named religious order or proves that he was a diocesan cleric rather than a layman.

Marriage, celibacy, and children are equally undocumented. Unsourced genealogical pages or local notices cannot be treated as historical fact. In the absence of a vita, necrology, parish register extract, or scholarly article that can be verified independently, it would be improper to invent a century, a diocese, or a career. Anyone needing a firm identification should consult Wikidata Q130396493 itself together with diocesan archives or a national biography for Slovenia or the Czech lands, rather than inference from the name alone.

This notice therefore records only what can be said without conjecture: the subject is known here solely as Janez Kostelec under the identifier supplied, gender is inferred from the established male use of the given name, and no further biographical particulars have been verified from independent historical literature.
