Biography

Short Description

The individual recorded under the name Jože Geoheli and associated with Wikidata identifier Q18811460 cannot be placed with confidence in the historical or hagiographical record. Standard reference works in church history, including martyrologies, episcopal catalogues, and biographical dictionaries of the Catholic and Orthodox churches, do not contain a matching entry. The personal name Jože is the common Slovene form of Joseph and is widely attested among clergy and laity in the Slovene lands from the early modern period onward, yet the surname Geoheli does not correspond to any well-documented family, religious, or ecclesiastical figure in published sources available to scholarly literature.

No reliable date of birth or death has been established. Likewise, no birthplace, place of death, or burial site can be confirmed from independent historical testimony. There is no evidence in accessible sources that this person held the office of Bishop of Rome or of any patriarchal or catholicosal see, nor is there documentation of membership in a religious order, of marriage, or of children. No feast day, patronage, beatification, or canonization associated with this name appears in the liturgical books or in the published acts of the Holy See.

Because the subject is obscure, it is possible that the Wikidata item refers to a private person of purely local significance whose life was never written up in sources that entered the wider scholarly tradition. It is also possible that the name represents a variant spelling, a transcription error, or a conflation with another individual. In the absence of primary documents—vitae, obituaries, diocesan schemata, or contemporary press—any reconstruction of a career would be speculative and is therefore withheld.

Hagiographical method requires that silence in the sources be respected. Typical motifs of sanctity, missionary labor, or martyrdom must not be supplied where the record is blank. Until archival research, preferably in Slovene or neighboring Central European repositories, produces dated and attributable evidence, Jože Geoheli remains a name without a verified biography. This notice therefore confines itself to stating what cannot presently be known rather than inventing a life story.

Further inquiry might begin with the original Wikidata item and any references it cites, followed by consultation of regional biographical lexica and parish registers. Until such material is brought to light and critically assessed, all specific claims about dates, places, offices, and cult must be withheld.
