Biography

Short Description

Juan Bautista Faubel Cano is not documented in the major published martyrologies, acta sanctorum, episcopal catalogues, or standard national biographical dictionaries that a cautious historian can treat as reliable. The name is Spanish in form: Juan Bautista is the ordinary Catholic baptismal name honouring John the Baptist, long common in Iberia, while Faubel and Cano are Iberian surnames. That onomastic evidence supports treating the subject as male and culturally Spanish, but it does not by itself establish a year or place of birth, a year or place of death, a burial site, or any public career. No verified birth year is known, and it would be improper to substitute an office-taking date or any other chronological guess.

Nothing in the accessible hagiographical record shows that this person was canonized or beatified, or that a liturgical feast or list of patronages was ever approved for him. He is not identifiable with any Bishop of Rome or Coptic Pope of Alexandria, nor with any Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Coptic, or Church of the East patriarch or catholicos. Whether he belonged to a religious order, was a secular cleric, or was a layman, and whether he married or had children, cannot be confirmed from sources that meet a proper historical standard; those fields are therefore left unset rather than filled by inference.

Spanish history, especially in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, contains many men named Juan Bautista, including priests, religious, and lay victims of political violence, and unsourced compilations easily confuse them. No securely attributed diocesan appointment, religious profession, martyrdom cause, or civil office can be tied to the full name Juan Bautista Faubel Cano without archival proof. Claims of precise dates, a Valencian or other local origin, or a role in a beatification process would be conjecture unless grounded in parish registers, notarial records, or an official Roman or diocesan decree, none of which are verified here.

Until such documentation is produced and critically assessed, the responsible biographical notice is a negative one: the subject is known by a Spanish Catholic male name, is not a pope or patriarch, and has not been shown from reliable references to possess an approved cult, a feast day, or patronages. Further work would have to begin in Spanish civil, parish, and diocesan archives rather than in secondary lists that recycle unverified data. Preferring blank fields to invented ones is the only course consistent with historical caution.
