Biography

Short Description

Karol Jeremiasz Bérauld du Pérou is recorded as a historical personal name in bibliographic and linked-data compilations, including the Wikidata item Q11736094. The given names appear in their Polish forms (Karol for Charles, Jeremiasz for Jérémie/Jeremiah) while the surname is French in structure, which is consistent with a figure of French origin whose notice, if any, entered Polish-language reference works. That onomastic pattern is the only point that can be stated with confidence from the name as transmitted. No baptismal register, ordination record, contemporary chronicle, or critical biography has been identified that would fix his identity beyond the name itself.

Standard ecclesiastical histories, national biographies, the Roman Martyrology, and the major collections of saints’ lives do not supply a verified year of birth or death, a birthplace, a place of death, or a burial site. It is therefore not possible to assign him to a particular century, diocese, or religious institute without conjecture. Assertions that he held episcopal office, belonged to a named religious order, or worked as a missionary cannot be documented from sources that meet ordinary historical standards and are omitted here.

He does not appear among the bishops of Rome or the Coptic popes of Alexandria, nor among the patriarchs or catholicoi of the Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, or Church of the East traditions; those offices can therefore be excluded. No feast day, list of patronages, or act of beatification or canonization is recorded in official liturgical books or in the Acta Sanctorum. Whether he married or had children is unknown; neither a spouse nor a statement of perpetual celibacy is attested in the available record.

The extreme thinness of the dossier suggests a person of at most local or familial significance—perhaps a cleric or notable whose name survived in a regional necrology, a genealogical notice, or a Polish encyclopedic compilation—rather than a figure who generated a public cult or a substantial paper trail. Until primary documents are located and published, any richer reconstruction of his career, spirituality, or death would be speculative and is therefore withheld.
