Biography

Short Description

Martin Tinh Duc Ta is listed in some reference databases under the Wikidata identifier Q11767847. The form of the name, pairing the Christian baptismal name Martin with the Vietnamese elements Tinh, Duc, and Ta, is typical of Catholic usage in Vietnam, where a saint’s name was commonly given at baptism alongside a local family name and given names. Beyond that onomastic pattern, widely available historical and hagiographical sources in European languages do not supply a verified biography.

No confirmed year of birth or death, place of origin, or place of burial can be cited from standard martyrologies, episcopal directories, or the published acts of the Vietnamese martyrs. The exact name does not match entries among the 117 Vietnamese Martyrs canonized in 1988, nor does it correspond to the well-documented bishops of the principal Vietnamese sees. Claims of episcopal office, membership in a religious order, or martyrdom therefore cannot be substantiated from those references.

It remains possible that the subject was a priest, religious, or lay Catholic whose life was recorded only in local parish registers, missionary letters, or Vietnamese-language publications that have not been widely translated or digitized. In the absence of such primary documentation, marital status, children, religious profession, and any pastoral assignments stay unknown. Hagiographical method requires that feast days, patronages, and the names of popes who beatified or canonized a person be drawn from official processes or contemporary cult; none of those can be verified here.

Further work in Vietnamese Catholic archives, diocesan catalogues, and untranslated local histories would be needed before a fuller life could be written. Until that evidence is produced and checked, the prudent course is to leave chronological and geographical fields blank rather than to infer them from naming conventions or from office-holding dates that have not been established.
