Biography

Short Description

The historical record concerning Nikolai Pospelov, associated in some databases with Wikidata item Q101444551, is too sparse to support a confident, fully sourced biography. The baptismal name Nikolai and the surname Pospelov are characteristically East Slavic and occur among both clergy and laity in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. Standard printed encyclopedias of the Russian Orthodox Church, major dictionaries of Russian biography, and the widely cited synaxaria of the New Martyrs do not yield a unique, securely identified life that can be matched to this identifier without risk of conflating distinct persons who shared the same name.

No verified year or place of birth can be assigned from reliable published sources, nor can a year or place of death or a burial site. Nothing in the accessible literature establishes that this individual held papal or patriarchal office, belonged to a named monastic order, or received a publicly documented canonization or beatification. Details of marriage and of children are likewise absent from corroborated accounts. Because Russian Orthodox parish clergy of the late imperial period were ordinarily married before ordination, while monastic clergy followed a different discipline, even that inference cannot be applied without first confirming that the subject was in fact a priest, and of which rank.

Soviet-era repression produced a number of clergymen named Nikolai Pospelov among those arrested or executed in the 1920s and 1930s, some of whom were later numbered with the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia. Identity between any one of those men and Q101444551 is not established in the sources consulted here, and therefore no feast day, patronage, or act of glorification is recorded in this entry. Secular bearers of the same name also appear in twentieth-century professional and academic contexts; they too cannot be equated with the present subject on the evidence available.

This notice therefore confines itself to what can be stated without conjecture. A fuller account would require primary documents such as metrical books, service lists, investigative files, or diocesan archives, or an authoritative statement from the compilers of the Wikidata item. Until such material is located and corroborated, the life of Nikolai Pospelov must be treated as insufficiently documented for a conventional historical or hagiographical narrative.
