Biography

Short Description

The identifier Q136769110, supplied with the bare name Pastor, cannot be matched from reliable historical or hagiographical reference works to one uniquely documented person. Pastor is a Latin name meaning shepherd and was borne by more than one figure in Christian memory. Those figures belong to different centuries and regions and rest on unequal evidence, much of it legendary. They must not be merged into a single life, and a Wikidata Q-number that cannot be verified in available sources must not be used as a pretext to invent dates, places, or offices.

One strand of tradition, reflected in later Roman martyrological lists, remembers a priest named Pastor at Rome, associated in those texts with the second-century bishop Pius I, said to have converted many and to have been buried in a cemetery on the Via Salaria. Another, far more popular in Iberian devotion, concerns the child martyrs Justus and Pastor of Complutum (Alcalá de Henares). Passion accounts of late antique and medieval date place their deaths in a persecution often assigned to the early fourth century and describe Pastor as the younger brother, a schoolboy who professed the Christian faith and was executed. Those stories do not constitute a verified civil birth record. Other obscure martyrs occasionally appear under the same name in calendars. None of these dossiers can be shown, from the information given, to be the referent of Q136769110.

Because identification fails, fields that demand a confirmed year of birth, a precise birthplace or death-place, a burial site, a spouse, children, a religious order, a papal or patriarchal office, a feast day proper to this item, or a list of patronages are left empty. Ancient cults typically grew by local veneration and later inclusion in martyrologies rather than by modern processes of beatification and canonization; no such acts can be attached here without guessing. A year of taking office, a legendary age at martyrdom, or a feast date must never be substituted for a verified birth year.

What can be said with caution is only that the name Pastor occurs in Roman and Hispanic hagiographical tradition and that the underlying sources are thin, regionally varied, and often legendary. Anything more specific to this Wikidata entity remains unverified. Preferring a blank field to a conjectural biography is the only historically responsible course.
