Biography

Short Description

Paula Delpuig i Gelabert is known principally by a Catalan double surname of the traditional form in which two family names are joined by the conjunction i. Delpuig and Gelabert are surnames attested in the Catalan-speaking lands of northeastern Iberia; Paula is a feminine given name of Latin Christian usage. That onomastic pattern indicates a woman connected with Catalan culture, but it does not by itself establish a parish of origin, a year of birth, or a public career. Standard historical encyclopedias, martyrologies, and biographical dictionaries of the Catholic Church do not supply a verified place or date of birth, a verified place or date of death, or a securely documented occupation for her.

She is not listed among the canonized saints or beatified blesseds in the principal Roman martyrologies, nor does she appear in the usual directories of founders of major religious congregations. No feast day, patronage, or act of canonization or beatification can be confirmed from those authorities. It is therefore not possible, from widely available published sources, to assign her to a religious order, to state whether she married or had children, or to reconstruct any ecclesiastical office. She was not Bishop of Rome and did not hold a patriarchal see.

Figures who bear local Catalan names of this kind are often recorded only in parish registers, diocesan archives, convent necrologies, or regional biographical compilations of limited circulation. If she was a religious sister, a tertiary, a teacher, or a laywoman of purely local reputation, those facts would typically survive in such repositories rather than in international reference works. The existence of a catalogue identifier attached to her name shows that some compiler has treated her as a distinct person, but the underlying claims have not been independently corroborated here against primary documents or standard secondary historical literature.

A source-based life would require systematic work in Catalan diocesan archives, municipal records, and specialized studies of regional religious history. Until those materials are cited and checked, dates, places, family relations, and religious status must remain unspecified. What can be said with caution is only this: she is identified by a Catalan feminine name; she is not attested as pope or patriarch; and a detailed, verifiable biography has not been established from the historical sources available for confirmation.
