Biography

Short Description

Ramón Grimaltós Monllor is not attested in the standard English-language biographical dictionaries, national encyclopedias, or major hagiographical corpora in a way that would allow a securely sourced life to be written. The personal name Ramón is the Iberian form of Raymond and is grammatically and historically masculine; the surnames Grimaltós and Monllor are characteristic of the Valencian-speaking east of the Iberian Peninsula. Those onomastic facts locate the subject, at the level of probability rather than proof, in Spain, but they do not by themselves establish a parish of origin, a year of birth, or a public career. No birth register, baptismal entry, or contemporary newspaper notice for this exact combination of names has been verified here.

Widely consulted martyrologies, the published decrees of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, and the principal lists of beatified victims of the Spanish Civil War do not yield a matching entry that can be identified with certainty as this individual. Many diocesan priests, religious, and lay Catholics from Valencia, Alicante, and neighbouring districts were killed in 1936–1939 and later proposed for beatification, and local memory sometimes preserves similar compound surnames; none of those processes can be tied to Ramón Grimaltós Monllor without archival confirmation that is not available in the sources used for this notice. It is therefore unknown whether he was a diocesan cleric, a member of a religious institute, a married layman, or none of these.

Negative facts can be stated with more confidence. He was not Bishop of Rome, nor Coptic Pope of Alexandria, nor patriarch or catholicos of an Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, or Church of the East see. No feast day, patronage, place of burial, or decree of beatification or canonization is recorded in the Roman Martyrology or in the ordinary reference works of Catholic hagiography. Claims that he belonged to a particular order, that he married or remained celibate, or that he had children would be conjecture.

A responsible account must therefore remain incomplete. Further light, if it exists, would have to come from diocesan archives, civil registers of the Valencian Community, or a local cause of canonization that has not entered the general historical literature. Until such documentation is produced and critically examined, the biography of Ramón Grimaltós Monllor cannot be filled in beyond the limits set out above.
