Biography

Short Description

The subject recorded under Wikidata identifier Q28963866 is named Theodosius, a Greek theophoric personal name meaning “given by God.” The name was common among Christians of the Eastern Roman world and later among Slavic and Oriental Orthodox communities, and it was borne by emperors, patriarchs, monastic founders, and local saints. No Wikipedia article is attached to this identifier, and no vita, synaxarion notice, episcopal catalogue, inscription, or other primary or standard reference work has been verified as corresponding uniquely to Q28963866. Without that match, a year of birth, a year of death, and places of birth, death, or burial cannot be stated.

Hagiographical and historical literature does preserve lives of several well-known figures called Theodosius, among them the Palestinian abbot commemorated as the Cenobiarch in the fifth and sixth centuries, the Kievan monastic founder of the eleventh century, and more than one patriarch or pope of Alexandria. Those men have attested dates, feast days, and sometimes patronages. Because the present Wikidata item cannot be shown to be identical with any of them, their biographies, offices, and liturgical commemorations must not be assigned here. Conflation of homonymous saints is a frequent source of error in older martyrologies and is avoided in this entry.

Nothing verified in the available record establishes whether this Theodosius was a monk or a member of a named religious order, whether he held the see of Rome or a patriarchal or catholicosal throne, whether he married, or whether he had children. Processes of canonization or beatification, and any resulting patronages of places, professions, or causes, are likewise unattested for this specific identifier. The name Theodosius is grammatically masculine, which is the only biographical attribute that can be recorded without conjecture.

Until Q28963866 is securely linked to a checkable source—a liturgical calendar, a colophon, a local tradition, or an entry in a critical edition of a synaxarion—any fuller narrative would be speculative. The remaining fields of this record are therefore left empty wherever a fact cannot be verified from a reliable historical source.
